Plesk Guide

Note in order to install any certifcate there are 3 main steps:

1) Purchase SSL Certificate from - click here to compare all certificates

2) Generate CSR (Certificate Signing Request) on your server

* it is very important that you generate the CSR from the server where you will be installing the certificate because the CSR contains your web server's Public Key

3) Install The SSL Certificate


 

To generate a CSR for Plesk follow these steps:

 

  1. From inside PSA, choose the domain in which you are creating a CSR for.

  2. Click the Request button.

  3. Fill in the form for a Certificate Request.

When creating a CSR you must follow these conventions. Enter the information to be displayed in the certificate. The following characters can not be accepted: < > ~ ! @ # $ % ^ * / \ ( ) ?.,&

    Common Name The fully qualified domain name for your web server. This must be an exact match. If you intend to secure the URL https://www.mycompany.com, then your CSR's common name must be www.mycompany.com.
    Organization The exact legal name of your organization. Do not abbreviate your organization name. ABC Company Inc.
    Organization Unit Section of the organization Marketing
    City or Locality The city where your organization is legally located. New York
    State or Province The state or province where your organization is legally located. Can not be abbreviated. New York
    Country The two-letter ISO abbreviation for your country. US
  1. Upon completion, you will receive from the plesk server an email containing an RSA private key and a Certificate Request (CSR).

Save the private key to a safe place as a backup. If you lose it, the certificate that you will receive will not work.

Submit your CSR to SSLTree.com by logging into your My Account dashboard and clicking Issue Now link and then copy and paste the CSR into the text box

 

 

To install the SSL Certificate for Plesk follow these steps:

 

I

1. Login to the Plesk Control Panel.

2. Select 'Domains' from the left hand menu.

3. Click on the domain name that the certificate is for.


4. Click on the 'Certificates' menu item.

5. There is a button in the middle of the page labeled 'Browse'. Click 'Browse' and navigate to the location of the certificate (save certificate into .txt) you received from SSLTree via email. Select it, then select 'Send File', this will upload and attach the certificate to the corresponding private key.


6. The certificate name will now appear in the list of certificates at the bottom of the page.

7. Now click 'Up Level' from the top right of the screen and choose 'Setup'.


8. At the top of the page, change the 'SSL Certificate' drop-down menu to the certificate you have just installed.


9. Click the 'Server' item from the left hand menu.

10. Click on the 'Service Management' menu item.


11. You now need to Stop and Start the Apache process.

NOTE: Restarting Apache will not work. You must stop and start the service to complete the installation and commit the changes.
